WHAT IS DAMASCUS STEEL?
Damascus blades get their beautiful pattern from layered metal. The technique dates back to around 500 BCE. Swordsmiths in particular used it for pieces that would eventually become family heirlooms if treated properly.
In recreating the blade, modern manufacturers blend together carbon, nickel, manganese, and chromium with meticulous attention to every detail. Carbon helps keep your knife sharp. Nickel brings out the bright, silver color. Manganese provides structure, and chromium improves the hardness of the blade while also making it corrosion resistant.
In its final form, a Damascus steel knife is harder than stainless steel and far more aesthetically pleasing. The blade resists rust and has a newly designed handle for a comfortable feel in your hand.
